THE BIG AI STORY

Samsung's 2nd Galaxy Unpacked event of the year is fast approaching, and the company hasn't been shy when it comes to teasing what may or may not be shown during this iteration of the event in Paris, France. Set to officially begin at 9 AM ET on the 10th of July, there are plenty of graphics and rumors to go over from the announcement video, from the hinted foldable phones to the video's description reading "Galaxy AI is here."

So what could be on Samsung's to-announce list?

With the regular Galaxy phone announcements out of the way at its 1st Unpacked event, we can hope to see the Galaxy Ring, which was teased as far back as January, with more current rumors estimating a price between $300 and $500. Galaxy AI was a big talking point at the 1st Unpacked event - now is the time for Samsung to set it apart from the crowd. Though their specs were leaked a week ago, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 are set to make an appearance, too, with both phones expecting a brighter screen and being thinner and lighter. Lastly, rumors of the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra and leaked Apple-like designs of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 may also get some light shed on them during the event.

5 QUICK HITS

Bloomberg's Mark Gruman's recent report teased the world that Apple's upcoming iOS 18.4 update may include the Apple Intelligence AI system in the spring of 2025. While specific features remain behind closed doors, ChatGPT integration and a revamped Siri interface are expected this fall. Apple's AI roadmap may involve AirPods with embedded cameras, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, potentially enabling real-time environment description and navigation assistance. However, he notes that these advanced AirPods could be 1-2 generations away.

Quora's subscription-based platform, Poe, has introduced Previews, a feature that enables users to create interactive apps directly in chat conversations with AI-powered chatbots. Users can build data visualizations, games, and even drum machines by typing specific requests. The feature supports HTML output, including CSS and JavaScript functionality, and can draw on information from uploaded files. While the feature works well with chatbots proficient in programming, it arrives amid controversy where Poe allowed users to download paywalled articles, which isn't helping Poe's reputation.

MIT recently released a database system dubbed GenSQL to simplify complex data analysis by combining databases with generative AI models. Users can query data and receive probabilistic results for tasks like anomaly detection and prediction. Built on familiar SQL language, GenSQL offers transparent models so users understand the reasoning behind results, with initial testing showing that GenSQL is faster and more accurate than existing methods. The researchers believe GenSQL has value in applications in data cleaning and synthetic data generation.

The OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global announced a new healthcare venture with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington throwing their weight around, too. Led by ex-Google Fitbit subsidiary product lead, DeCarlos Love, as the CEO, Thrive AI Health will seek to build an "AI health coach." This health coach will be designed to give personalized advice on sleep, food, fitness, stress management, and "connection." To swat away wary critics, Huffington and Altman are positioning Thrive AI Health as a more thought-out and careful approach to health with an emphasis on privacy.

Chicago-based AI consultation startup Quantum Rise recently bagged $15 million in seed funding led by Erie Street Growth Partners. Quantum Rise, founded by Alex Kelleher, provides companies with workflow automation, AI solutions, and general business acceleration via the "Consulting 2.0" model. Kelleher intends for Quantum Rise to swoop in and provide consulting as the entire industry is "about to come crashing to the ground" and deliver his startup's unique understanding of merging human and machine intelligence.
