Nvidia used a real U.S. winter storm as the backdrop to unveil Earth-2, its next-generation climate and weather simulation platform, at the American Meteorological Society meeting. The company claims its Medium Range weather model outperforms Google DeepMind’s GenCast across 70+ variables, while running dramatically faster on GPUs.
Earth-2 reframes forecasting as a software problem, not a physics bottleneck — enabling faster simulations for extreme weather, climate risk, insurance, logistics, and national planning. The timing made the launch feel less academic and more strategic: Nvidia isn’t just powering AI anymore — it’s modeling the planet.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly acknowledged that writing quality dipped in GPT-5.2 as resources shifted toward reasoning, coding, and engineering performance. He confirmed that AI agents are already running near-continuously in narrow scopes, and predicted intelligence costs could fall ~100× by 2027.
